Tennis no Oujisama
...otherwise known as prince of tennis or tenipuri

Tennis no Oujisama was originally a manga by Konomi Takeshi, published in Weekly Shounen Jump since January 2000. An anime adaptation then followed, which aired from 2001 to 2005 in TV Tokyo. Tennis no Oujisama is one of the most popular anime and manga titles in Japan, with a wide variety of merchandise and adaptations. Among these adaptations are the live-action movie, The Prince of Tennis, released May 13, 2006 in Japan, and several live-action musicals (dubbed as Tenimyu by fans).    An OVA continuation of the anime began its release last April 2006, which focuses on the Nationals Arc. The manga is still on-going.

Tenipuri follows the arrogant freshman, Echizen Ryoma, and his fellow teammates of the Seishun Gakuen tennis club, or Seigaku, for short, as they battle their way to the Nationals. As they advance further, their friendships and character develop just as well as their personal techniques.

The plot might sound a bit simple, but I was always a sucker for those Shounen sports animangas so it's no wonder why I loved PoT ever since I watched the first few episodes. I started with the anime first before reading the manga, and although there are obvious differences between the two, I love them equally. :D The manga gets to focus more on the games, while the anime adds the crack (because honestly, where else would you find a hot, egotistical guy that is Atobe Keigo sing for a captain of an opposing team? Crack. Pure, utter crack). XD As in usual Shounen sports-themed animanga's, there are equal amounts of sap and, dare I say, corni-ness (if such a word existed), but that's what I love about sports-themed anything's. XD Moreover, the characters are just absolutely engaging, not just of the main team, Seigaku, but also of their rivals. Each and every player that appears has such a unique and distinct characteristic that slowly unfolds as their matches and scenes progress, until I couldn't help but love them. :) Tenipuri is definitely an animanga I have grown to love so much, and I am happy I encountered such a wonderful series. :D
