In my opinion
...why I like kaoru
Before you start reading I should warn you that there are things written here that some might consider as SPOILERS, so please be warned! I'm not that good at writing stuff, so I apologize if this sounds a bit lame. XD
Quite frankly, at first I couldn't tell the twins apart. XD They were both hyper and troublemakers and stuff, and they both loved picking on Tamaki or Haruhi. When the anime came out, I was able to distinguish Kaoru from Hikaru with their voices (Kaoru's was higher), and from the godsent hint from the manga and anime that Kaoru and Hikaru parted their hair differently. XDBasically Kaoru grew on me more than Hikaru because he played the "uke" role, acting all sensitive and needy and all that. XD I always went "squee!" whenever Kaoru acted that way. It's good too, because despite that role he's really a mischief-maker, and he likes to have a good time, which I think makes him not a boring person to be with (nor a boring character). I like that side of him because I'm always entertained when he and Hikaru are around, though of course I've always watched him slightly more. XD
Furthermore, I like the idea that he can be calm and normal when he's not with Hikaru. It shows another side to him; something that's not all games and play. I'm always attached to characters like these because it gives depth to his personality. I also appreciate the fact that he's less evil (XD) than Hikaru because, though I like hyper-hyper characters, I also am biased to those that can be a bit more docile. It's just a preferene, I guess. XD
The fact that Kaoru's more mature despite being the younger twin is another something I like about him, because at least he can be someone you can better talk serious matters with (relatively XD). His also having a better feel of people around him is interesting, and because I don't like completely insensitive people (not that I'm saying Hikaru is utterly insensitive and I don't like him though!), Kaoru became more lovable. It's nice to see that despite him being the mischievous-boy stereotype at first, he slowly became more fleshed-out and interesting, and I got to see him as more of a person than just a stereotype.
And hey, Kaoru's hot. Don't deny it; I mean just look at him! XD Kaoru's physical characteristics and his personality is something I find amusing and endearing (plus I like his uke antics XD), and he's a character I learn to love more and more with each passing episode.
